Postcolonial EchoesDec 21 2023
This publication was created from scratch. I was provided with a document containing several pages of text, and my task was to design a book from it. After reading the text and considering what kind of design would suit the book, I pondered on how to make it different from most books. I came up with the idea of hiding a part of the book, which led to the concept of foldable pages. When the foldable page part is closed, you can read the full text as usual, but when you open it, you'll find additional layers of information, including images and footnotes. This concept reflects the idea that certain things are still hidden, and if you want to delve deeper, you can do so. If you're still unsure about what you want to explore, you might overlook or miss the most significant aspects.
I also decided to stagger the text blocks and present them in a more block-like formation, with lines that don't always align perfectly, creating a sense of unevenness and a unique atmosphere in the book. The unevenness represents the idea of layers coming together to form something greater, echoing a sense of individuality and adding flavor to the overall composition.
I designed the cover with the concept of moving particles in mind. These particles swirl around each other, gradually coming together to form a cohesive whole. This imagery reminded me of echoes, which I felt resonated well with the overall theme. Additionally, I chose the simplicity of these small particles to complement the design of the rest of the book.
