About me
I am drawn to places that speak their own language. In a time when everything is becoming faster, smoother, and more universal, I look for what cannot be exchanged: a street, a landscape, a custom, a face, a story that could only exist there. With Dutch and Mozambican roots, I grew up between different geographical and cultural realities. This has shaped the way I see the world, constantly observing how people give meaning to the places they inhabit, and how those places, in turn, shape them.
My work moves between documentation and interpretation. I collect, observe, read, photograph, and design. Publications are a way for me to slow down these encounters and make them visible. I do not create work to provide answers. I create work to sustain attention—to look at something specific long enough for it to begin telling a larger story. Because the more carefully we look at where something comes from, the better we understand where we ourselves stand.
